From songs like Look At Me it's obvious your music comes from the heart... What inspires you when your creating your tunes? Is there anything you guys & gal, hope people will get from listening to your music?
I think there's a great mixture of musical and NON-musical things that influence and inspire us. Certainly the bands in our top friends are big influences on what we do. Cobra Starship's first album was groundbreaking!! Butch Walker is the greatest singer/songwriter/performer/producer/superhero on the planet!! We go back to bands like The Beatles who were pretty much the only band to write 150 amazing songs!! We're also influenced by a lot of things. Pop culture is everywhere and it's really interesting and sometimes fun to poke fun at. I like to do lots of reading and certainly books influence what we write our songs about. Movies are also a great influence because movies usually happen the way we WANT things to happen (which reality often does NOT do). We're also heavily influenced by Charles Shaw!! There's nothing specific I want people to take away from our songs... I just want them to take something away from each song! I want people to have their own interpretation and hopefully it's something positive!
Your music is so unique, it always puts me in a better mood!! What musicians have had an impact on all of you and your music?
I mentioned a bunch of them above. But I think you hit on something very important, that our music puts you in a better mood! That's what this thing is all about. We want people to have FUN! That's what this project is all about. FUN! :-) I think we've taken that FUN idea from people like Butch Walker who really is the KING of fun! Blink 182 always was a lot of fun!! Even a band like the Beatles, especially in their early days were all about fun! Keith Urban is an amazing artist and he's had a big impact on what we're doing!! (Yes, the country guy). Justin Timberlake is also a huge influence! He's fantastically talented and again, focuses on having fun with his music!!
Any ideas on when an album will be available? What about a tour?
We are finishing up the last handful of songs for the record right now. The problem is we keep writing songs that we feel beat our earlier songs so we just kinda wanna keep writing until we've gotten every bit of music out of us that we can! We're HOPING to make an announcement about our record early this spring and possibly even release something by late spring. We're still trying to figure out exactly how, who and when we'll be releasing the record but hoping to have answers soon!! Tour?? Once we get the album figured out we'll start talking tours! :-)
In keeping up with your top secret identities, if you do go on tour have you considered dressing up in costume?? If you would what would each of you wear??
Haha that has certainly crossed our minds. I was thinking about buying masks of everyone who has been speculated to be in the band and wear those. Or perhaps take each member of the band, buy a mask with their face on it, and then have different people wear the masks. Who knows. I'm pretty sure if we toured, we wouldn't be able to keep it a secret for very long. So for now, I'm holding out for the VMAs for the big revelation of Oh, Hush!
When your not making music yourselves, what do you all listen too??
Today I was rocking out to the new Danity Kane single "Damaged" which is great!! I also was rocking this new pop-girl Britt Nicole. Very cool stuff! And I totally love the new Matchbox 20 song "How Far We've Come." My musical taste is all over the place but that's what I happened to be listening to today!!
Read any good books lately? I have to ask this one :)
I'm currently reading through the Bible. That's a pretty darn good book! :-) Amazing amount of wisdom and truth in there!! On a lighter note, I'm reading a book called "What we can learn about our poop" which talks about the different types of poop and what it means. Very enlightening. And the best book I read in the past year or so is called Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. Just a fascinating book with a great surface level story and a lot of great underlying meaning if you really wanna dig into the book!
Are you guys funny? Tell us a good joke..
I would say we are probably the funniest people I know!! But then again, you're talking to a guy who thinks the same joke is funny for at least 6 months (some even longer!). A good joke to tell... hmmmmm..... I can only quote movies. Maybe we're not as funny as I think we are....
What's the craziest thing that has happen to you've had together as a band?
The craziest thing is when I see people go up to someone OTHER than me and ask them if they are in Oh, Hush! It's hilarious because they have no idea what this person is talking about, and yet I am in Oh, Hush! and they don't ask me. Pretty funny stuff!!
If Oh, Hush was a pizza, what would be on it?
I think we're pretty simple... we're a half cheese half sausage pizza!! It's simple, fun and something that everyone likes! But offers another option to someone who wants a little more than cheese :-) |
